About MODP Government jobs 2020

The country’s Ministry of Defence Production (MODP) said in a report in August 2020 that it is planning new policies for defence production and defence offsets, and also restructuring internally to “make it more efficient and viable”. It is seeking to enhance the role of the country’s private sector in defence manufacturing.

The ministry said it is also reorganizing Pakistan’s most prominent state-owned defence enterprises to give them greater independent control. State-owned Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT) – manufacturer of Al-Khalid-I main battle tank – has been designated by the Pakistan government as an ‘autonomous body’, giving it greater independent control. (ISPR)

This move is prompted by growing requirements to locally source the capability needs of the Pakistan Armed Forces, to reduce foreign reliance, generate revenues, and increase Government jobs 2020, it said. All these requirements are likely to have intensified during the Covid-19 crisis.

Pakistan’s new defence production policy is currently in draft form and is expected to be issued soon with the aim of outlining manufacturing capabilities and targets, according to the report. The offset policy is also in draft form, it said, and has been issued to MODP stakeholders for input.

The offset policy is likely to be a second version. The MODP issued in late 2014 the country’s initial defence offset policy. The policy is promulgated by Pakistan’s defence procurement agency, the Directorate General Defence Purchase (DGDP), which operates as a department of the MODP.

It was further stated that the “policy will allow private investment in defence research, development and manufacturing industry while granting greater autonomy to state-owned enterprises“. Sources said that Pakistan’s Ministry of Defence Production (MODP) is also restructuring itself internally to make it more efficient and viable.

It is also re-organizing its prominent state-owned defence enterprises to give them greater independent control. Sources also stated that Pakistan wants to reduce dependence on foreign reliance, generate revenues, and increase job opportunities.

The private sectors would be given opportunities in the defence manufacturing sector. Pakistan is also planning to rope in huge investments in this sector so they can provide Government jobs in 2020.

Vocational training institutes for Government jobs 2020

China has decided to help Pakistan open six vocational training institutes across the country to produce skilled labour, Gwadar Pro reported on Sunday. At present, Chinese companies working in Pakistan are facing acute shortage of skilled labour as the majority of local workers falls under the unskilled category.

Shafqat Mahmood, Federal Minister for Education, told Gwadar Pro that vocational training institutes are being set up with the help of China under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) to impart necessary skills to meet the demands of the industries. This will further strengthen the partnership between the two friendly countries.

Pakistan has the ninth largest labour force in the world with an estimate of 61 million workers, out of which 5.9 per cent are unemployed. Around 2.5 million people enter the local job market while the majority of them lack the necessary skills to meet the demands of the local industry.

Pakistan and China expect to produce millions of Government jobs in 2020 for skilled workers. Until September 2020, as many as 70,000 Pakistanis have been directly employed at different projects under CPEC.

A recent study conducted by CPEC Centre of Excellence showed that indirectly, CPEC could help create even 1.2 million Government jobs from 2020 until 2030 under its presently agreed projects.
